WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The UNC Wilmington baseball team got back on track Friday afternoon with a 10-7 victory over preseason CAA favorite James Madison University. With the win, the Seahawks improved to 4-9 and the Dukes dropped to 5-8-1.
Starting pitcher Tyler McSwain picked up the win, improving to 2-2 on the young season. Jack Lane pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief for his first save.
Facing a 5-0 deficit heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning, UNCW barraged JMU starter Sean Tierney (2-2) with four runs to cut the Dukes' lead to one. The Seahawks added four runs in the fifth and a pair of one-run innings in the sixth and eighth for insurance.
Seven UNCW batters recorded hits, including a four-hit performance from Andrew Cain and three base knocks from Thomas Pope. Cain and Pope added three and four RBI, respectively.
