NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The father of a boy accused of being a bully is defending his son's reputation.
Robert Pigford said Tuesday that he's not happy with his son Robert Junior for fighting after school Friday, but he considers what happened between him and Demario Boykin to be just that, a fight.
Boykin and his mother told WECT.com Monday night that the senior at Hoggard was jumped and attacked by two younger students. Both Boykin and Pigford's children were suspended for three days for fighting.
Pigford said the punishment is fair, but the accusations that his son is a bully are not. Robert Junior shared some cell phone video with WECT.com. It shows the two boys fighting each other until a third student breaks up the fight. The video is short, and it does not show anyone holding down Boykin while someone else attacks him.
The father said he hopes the issue is finished and the two boys can return to school and focus on their education.
Beverly Boykin, who originally told WECT.com that she plans to press charges, said the sight of the video has reaffirmed her decision to take legal action.
