UNCW tennis coach steps down, former basketball coach moves to Clemson

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The UNCW women's tennis coach is leaving her post and a former interim head basketball coach is moving to Clemson.

Jenny Garrity, the 2011 and 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year, informed Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass of her intention to leave. Bass said Thursday that he has not received her official letter of resignation yet.

Garrity would have started her 17th season as a collegiate tennis coach and 13th overall with the Seahawks in 2012-13, according to UNCW Sports Information.

Jimmy Garrity, who took over as interim head coach of the UNCW women's basketball team after Cynthia Cooper-Dyke stepped down on April 10, took a job on the Clemson women's basketball staff, according to former UNCW men's basketball coach Brad Brownell.

The Cary, NC native was elevated to assistant coach at the start of the 2007-08 season after spending the previous season as the team's director of basketball operations. Jimmy Garrity also spent four seasons on the men's staff under Brownell after leaving the post as assistant director of the Seahawk club in 2001.
