UNCW hosts annual IT conference

From drones that fly, to robots and more, different types of technology were on display Tuesday afternoon at UNCW.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - From drones that fly, to robots and more, different types of technology were on display Tuesday afternoon at UNCW.

High school and college students had a chance to show off their projects as part of the annual Wilmington IT conference.  They also got hands-on-lessons from those in the technology field.

Organizers say it's a great way for students to see how a they can pursue a technology career.

"I think a lot of students see things from a classroom perspective, and then seeing corporate individuals here that do this on a daily basis, so it's bringing the experience of the classroom out into the community," said Tom Janicki, the conference chair.

Ten years ago when the conference started there were about 60 people in attendance, but this year there were over 400. Organizers say it's proof that the IT field is growing in Wilmington.
