REGISTER NOW: Hoggard High hosts boys' basketball camps this summer

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Hoggard High School is hosting two basketball camps this summer for boys between first and ninth grades.

The camps will take place from June 25-28 and July 9-12, 9 a.m. until noon each day. The cost to attend is $75 for one week or $130 for both weeks.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the Wilmington Police Department will take each other on during the “Battle of the Badges” basketball game on Saturday, March 3.

The event will raise money and awareness for the Big Buddy program, which helps mentor at-risk youth in the community, according to a news release.

The 19-year rivalry will take place at the Schwartz Center on the campus of Cape Fear Community College at 2 p.m. and will include raffle prizes, face painting, and food.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – This spring, Wilmington Lady Fitness, currently located at 5226 South College Road, will be relocating to land where Alford’s Seafood used to be, at 5330 Carolina Beach Road.

“At Wilmington Lady Fitness, we understand the many changes that are happening in the fitness business and are changing our business model to reflect these changes,” said Brian Autry owner of Wilmington Lady Fitness, in a statement. “With the ever growing need for more personalized attention in our industry we are expanding our traditional health club model and infusing a personal training business.”

The gym’s new business model will allow its members the option of both small and large-group personal training memberships.

Oleander Golf Center broken into, clubs stolen

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Oleander Golf Center was broken into Saturday night and numerous golf clubs were stolen.

Someone threw a brick through the glass door in the back of the business, located at 5026 Oleander Drive, to gain entry, according to Wilmington Police Department spokesperson Lucy Crockett. Golf clubs, related equipment and a small amount of cash were reportedly taken.

Anyone with information about the incident should call 911 or the WPD at 910-343-3600.

UNCW men’s basketball tickets specially priced for VCU game

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Seahawks need help from their proud teal fans and the UNCW Athletics department is hoping to make it easy for families to show up.

Special $5 tickets for selected areas will be available for the UNCW vs. VCU men’s basketball game on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Trask Coliseum.

The offer excludes seats in sections 203-205, 217-219 and all downstairs area, according to a news release from the school.

Fans can purchase the $5 tickets by calling the ticket office at 910-962-3233 or by going to UNCWsports.com.
