UNCW cross country teams tune up for CAA's

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men’s and women’s cross country teams go through their final paces before the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Championships this Friday when they compete in the Blue Ridge Open Cross Country Meet in Boone, N.C.

The Seahawks are making their fifth appearance of the season against a large field at the Donnie Kennedy XC Trails. The event, hosted by Appalachian State, features the Women’s Gold 5K at 3:30 p.m. and the Men’s Gold 8K at 4:15 p.m.

“This has been our final tune-up meet for several years now,” said UNCW assistant cross country/track and field coach Layne Schwier. “This will help us gauge how we look as a team just two weeks away from the conference meet. The competition is usually very good and it’s a great time of year to compete because the temperatures are dropping and the leaves are changing.”

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Seahawk fanstalked with with men’s basketball coach Buzz Peterson and new women’s basketball coach Adell Harris at the UNCW Basketball Tip-off Luncheon Wednesday.

Peterson and Harris gave an in-depth look at their teams, players and the schedule. The coaches also answered questions from fans.

Fans could purchase season tickets during the luncheon that was held at Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Seahawk Club.

Hoggard falls to New Bern, 39-7

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – For the second straight week, the New Bern Bears find themselves in a matchup of unbeatens Friday.

Two weeks ago they came to Wilmington and knocked off New Hanover, Friday they took on the Hoggard Vikings.

The bears took a 6-0 lead on their opening drive, looking for more later in the first quarter. It was the same story in the second quarter, and the Bears led 32-0 at the half.

New Bern dominated the game and beat Hoggard 39-7.

Talk to Coach during the UNCW Tip-off Luncheon

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Seahawk fans can meet and speak with men’s basketball coach Buzz Peterson and new women’s basketball coach Adell Harris at the UNCW Basketball Tip-off Luncheon.

According to a press release, the event will take place Wednesday, October 10 at Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Tickets for the event cost $20 per person and include an all-you-can-eat buffet. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Seahawk Club.

Peterson and Harris will give an in-depth look at their teams, players and the schedule. They will also answer questions from fans and have season tickets available for purchase.

UNCW men's soccer hosts Duke

UNCW men's soccer hosts Duke

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW men’s soccer will host Duke University September 25, Tuesday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium. The match is set to begin at 7:00PM.

UNCW (2-5-1) will look to rebound following a loss to George Mason, 2-0. Tonight’s game versus’ Duke (3-3-1) is the Seahawks last non-conference game before conference play begins.

Vikings shut out Q-Foundation 49-0

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The Hoggard Vikings were the only game in town last Friday for Wilmington residents.

Scott Braswell’s team took a perfect record into its matchup with a Q-Foundation team that’s lost three in a row.

The Vikings dominated the field and won 49-0.

This Friday they open league play at Laney.

UNCW club ice hockey team playing 2 home games against UNC this weekend

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – UNCW’s club ice hockey team will be hosting two games this weekend against UNC Chapel Hill, according to team member Jordan Ricci.

One of the games will be held at 10 p.m. Friday night and the other will be held at 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

The games will be held at the Wilmington Ice House, located at 7201 Ogden Business Lane.

Admission is $4.
