Wave Transit offering shuttle service to Azalea Festival Parade

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Wave Transit is offering a shuttle service for the 2013 Azalea Festival Parade in an effort to ease parking concerns, according to a news release.

Saturday, express shuttles will run for the duration of the parade from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  They will transport people who park at Independence Mall to the intersection of Second and Dock Streets. 

The shuttles will operate on 10-minute intervals throughout the day, with the last shuttle leaving downtown Wilmington at 1:30 p.m. Festival-goers who wish to stay downtown after that time can use their express shuttle tickets to take a Wave Transit bus for a ride back to the mall.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Kirkland’s is coming to Wilmington.

The home décor and gifts store will be celebrating its grand opening in the Port City Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19 and 20, according to a spokesperson for the company.

The store will be located at 6 Van Campen Blvd., and it will be hosting a $500 gift card drawing for those who attend the grand opening. In order to enter the drawing, customers need to simply show up and register. No purchase is necessary.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – If you drive an eco-friendly electric vehicle, you now have one more place in Wilmington to charge its battery while grocery shopping.

Workers with Progress Energy Carolinas recently installed two plug-in electric vehicle charging stations at Tidal Creek Cooperative Food Market, according to a news release from the store’s general manager.

Gravity Records moving closer to downtown area

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A well-known music store in Wilmington will be moving to a new location soon.

Gravity Records, currently located off of S. Kerr Avenue, will call 612 Castle Street its new home in January, according to the store’s Facebook page.

A grand reopening party will then take place in February.

Beach reads on sale for 50 cents at Northeast Library

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Paperback books will be on sale for 50 cents each on Saturday.

The Friends of the New Hanover County Public Library group is holding a beach reads paperback books sale from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Northeast Library, located at 1241 Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington. Mysteries, romances, thrillers and sci-fi paperbacks will be available. No children’s books will be at the sale.

The library accepts used books, CDs, DVDs and other materials throughout the year. Then the Friends of the Library organize three sales each year (fall, spring and summer). The sales raise about 20% of the funds used to buy new materials, according to Assistant Library Director Paige Owens. The fall sale is scheduled for September 28 through October 3.
