NHC offers free rabies clinic Saturday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) — New Hanover County is offering a free rabies clinic on Saturday, June 4 from 1-3 p.m. at the NHC Health Department.

Residents should bring proof of prior vaccinations or notice from the veterinarian for three year vaccinations. Dogs, cats and ferret, four months of age or older are welcome, but must be leashed or in carriers.

The New Hanover County Health Dept. is located at 2029 S. 17th Street.

Aunt Kerry's Pet Stop hosts food drive for tornado victims

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — Aunt Kerry's Pet Stop, located at 3600 S. College Rd, is holding a food drive to benefit the animal shelters in Wake and Bladen County that were affected by the recent tornadoes.

Dog and cat food will be accepted during regular business hours at the stop until Saturday, April 30. Cash donations will also be accepted and used to purchase food and supplies donated directly to the shelters.

Youth organizations collaborate for a free family concert

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A free concert, sponsored by Southeastern Nephrology Associates, will be held on Sunday, May 1 at 4 p.m. at Kenan Auditorium, UNCW campus.

This is the Wilmington Symphony's annual Free Family Concert, and is presented with the spotlight on young performers.  The Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra and Stageworks Youth Theatre are joining forces in a unique presentation of the fanciful tale, "Peer Gynt," featuring Bunraku-style puppets.

This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to the joy and excitement of an orchestra concert, as Steven Errante conducts the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra in an exhilarating performance.

5th annual Walk for Those Who Can't will be in Hugh MacRae Park today

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The 5th annual Walk for Those Who Can't fundraiser event will be Saturday, March 26 at Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington.

Funds from the event will benefit Carolina Canines for Service, an organization that provides service dogs for free to disabled people and wounded warriors.

The 1.55 mile walk around the park will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until noon. Participants are encouraged to bring their dogs, but are told to leash and control their pets.

Seahawk volunteers work with animals in Brunswick County

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Student volunteers from UNCW will help clean dog kennels, socialize animals and organize a storage garage at Brunswick County's Paws Place in Winnabow.

The event is one of several bimonthly UNCW Saturday Seahawk Surge service opportunities and will take place Feb. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Each event is chosen and organized by student leaders and facilitated by the UNCW Center for Leadership Education and Service (CLES) office.

Paws Place is a non-profit animal rescue and adoption facility.
