NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Most of the time this segment is about something in the news or something going on in government that I have an opinion on. But not today.
Today I'm going to talk about family and family reunions. We all have families and most of us, at some point, have attended a family reunion. Some families have a reunion every year, complete with custom-made T-shirts.
Reunions are a great time to gather and celebrate family. We bring a covered dish. We talk about the good times. We reminisce with aunts, uncles and cousins…some of whom we meet for the very first time.
Each year, on the third Saturday in June, my "extended family," the good folks who call West Virginia home, gather for a family reunion here in Wilmington. And each year, I meet new family and make new friends. Wilmington has become a melting pot of sorts. But I think we win the prize for highest ratio based on native-state population.
This Saturday, my West Virginia "family" will gather for a few hours to share a meal, enjoy some entertainment and fellowship with one another.
So if you call West Virginia home and now live here, come by Winter Park Baptist Church on Saturday at about 11 a.m. We'll do our best to make you feel like family.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or to get details on the reunion, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
