WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Fire Department will officially place a new fire truck into service with a short ceremony Wednesday.
According to Chief David Hines, this event will be the first ever "Roll-out/Roll-in" ceremony to celebrate putting a new apparatus into service. During the event, Station 5 crew will roll-out the old truck and roll-in the new one.
Hines said the retiring Engine 5 is a 1995 Sutphen 75' stick (ladder) with 125,000 miles. It's being replaced by a 2012 Sutphen 75' stick with many new upgrades.
The new truck is a safer vehicle with improved braking and suspension systems and airbags. According to Hines, there is an on-board foam system that enables foam to be proportioned and dispensed directly from truck outlets.
The ceremony will take place at WFD Station #5 at 1:00 p.m.
