WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – It was a special night for a 6-year-old girl battling brain cancer. Baylee Adkins, who has been added as an honorary member of the UNCW women's soccer team, tossed the coin at the team's game and spent some time with the players.
We first introduced you to Baylee earlier this week.
Tonight, her family drove in from Jacksonville to cheer on the Seahawks.
She even got to spend some time on the field with the team before its game.
The support and love for Baylee has spread beyond team members. Even fans are cheering and rooting for Baylee. Some held signs to cheer her on at tonight's game.
Her mom, Tracie Thochur, said the games are the highlight of Baylee's life.
"It is something for her to look forward to," she said. "She gets anxious on the days we get to go to the games to see the girls. She sees them and she just smiles. She's not half as smiley at home as she is here."
The women's soccer team and Baylee joined forces thanks to a national foundation called Friends of Jaclyn. The purpose of the foundation is to help improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families by pairing them with college and high school athletic teams, according to the website.
