WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Dozens of young children in our area got an inspiring push, from a woman with no arms.

Motivational speaker, Tawana Williams, charmed the crowd at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington on Thursday night with her personality, story telling, and using her "foot-writing" demonstration.

WPD helped bring her here as part of their "U-turn" program to inspire the youth of Wilmington before they go back to school on Monday.

Williams was born without either one of her arms.

She had a tough time growing up, she's was beaten, gang-raped, molested by her step-father, and then got addicted to drugs.  However, according to Williams, she's an "expert in overcoming adversities."

Since then, Williams has authored 5 books including her best seller, "Unarmed but Dangerous.". She's also appeared on several network television shows highlighted by an interview with Oprah.

Williams now wears many hats, she works as a speaker, artist (draws with her feet), vocalist, wife, mother, and CEO of her website, www.tawanawilliams.com.

Williams says her main job though, is to inspire others not to give up on life.  Her motto is "no excuses."

Williams continues to your the country giving motivational speeches.  She plans to organize a trip to speak in Jamaica next year.
