WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Two Grammy award winning singer/songwriters will headline the 2012 Chords for a Cause event October 27 in Trask Coliseum on the campus of UNC Wilmington. Vanessa Carlton and Edwin McCain will perform along with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra for the event.
Edwin McCain is credited for helping to create Chords for a Cause, and performed the first benefit in 2009 at UNCW's Kenan Auditorium. His songs I'll Be (1998) and I Could Not Ask For More (1999) both reached top-ten status on the Adult Contemporary charts. Edwin released his tenth album, Mercy Bound, in August 2011.
Conductor Rudi Schlegel of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will be back for this year's performance. Schlegel conducted the orchestras behind Sister Hazel (2010), and Gloriana (2011) at previous Chords for a Cause concerts. Click here to see hilights from the 2011 benefit with Gloriana.
Vanessa Carlton exploded onto the pop scene with the Grammy award winning 2002 album A Thousand Miles. She has had top ten hits with her album Be Not Nobody and singles Ordinary Day and Big Yellow Taxi.
This year's Chords for a Cause concert will support Canines for Service and children treated at New Hanover Regional Medical Center's Betty H. Cameron Women's and Children's Hospital. The hospital's Wish Book 2.0, which will be distributed at the concert, offers donors a chance to contribute to the purchase of special items needed by infants, children and families. These can range from toys to car seats or special medical equipment.
