WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – An event cosponsored by WRAAP and the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina helped put food on hundreds of peoples' tables this Thanksgiving.
Families in need were able to fill bags with apple and pumpkin pie, a selection of breads, drinks, and desserts, along with spiral hams and sweet potatoes.
And while this event does fill the stomachs of community members needing a hot meal this Thanksgiving, Daryl Dockery, the executive director of WRAAP, says the event isn't only about feeding the needy.
"More than anything, I think we are giving people hope that people do care, that people do want to help out," Dockery said. "Hopefully that will go much farther than just a regular meal."
The event ran from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday. Officials say hundreds of people were able to fill their bags for a Thanksgiving feast.
