NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Physicians, physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners are wanted to help with free pre-participation screening exams for local student athletes and cheerleaders, according to the NHC Health Department’s Facebook page.

The exams are state mandated, and physicians, Pas and NPs can volunteer to screen male, female or male and female athletes.

Exams are administered by the county health department.

To sign up to help, you can call 910-790-5800 or email MedicalSociety@NHPCMS.org.

Participating physicians, PAs and NPs should arrive at the health department with their stethoscopes by 5:45 p.m. on their chosen day(s).

Exams for girls will take place Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m., and exams for boys will take place Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m.

The health department is located at 2029 S. 17th Street in Wilmington.
