Game, set, match: Tennis state championships take place in New Hanover, Brunswick | Events

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Thousands of tennis players are headed to Southeastern North Carolina.

The 2011 USTA Combo Doubles League State Championships will be held in New Hanover County and Brunswick County on November 3-6 and 10-13.

The tournament is hosted by the Greater Wilmington Tennis Association. Around 1,200 players are expected to participate each weekend. Many of them will be traveling from outside the Wilmington area.

During both tournaments, players and guests will have the opportunity to stay at area hotels and shop, dine and visit area attractions.

The tennis matches will take place at several different facilities, including:

• Althea Gibson Tennis Center
• Ogden Park
• Ashley High School
• UNCW
• Echo Farms
• Porter's Neck Country Club
• Pine Valley Country Club
• Cliff Drysdale Sports Center (Landfall)
• Cape Fear Country Club
• Holly Tree Racquet and Swim Club
• St. James Plantation in Brunswick County

Spectators are welcome at all venues and admission is free.
