WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell will provide the opening remarks at an Offshore Wind Forum at UNCW on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
According to a news release from the N.C. Sierra Club, the forum is intended to highlight North Carolina’s unique coastal wind resources and to discuss how coastal communities can attract jobs and economic investment that offshore wind energy has to offer.
“It’s becoming clear that North Carolina has a choice to make regarding energy off our coast,” said Mac Montgomery, Chair of the Cape Fear Group of the North Carolina Sierra Club and former Mayor of Kure Beach, in a news release. “This forum is about letting people know that we can create our own energy in responsible ways that won’t harm our coast or wildlife. Our aim is to get people talking about the energy challenges we have and the solutions we can create together.”
Panelists at the forum include: Brian O’Hara, President of the North Carolina Offshore Wind Coalition; Dr. Pete Peterson, Professor of Marine Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill; Rob Propes, Development Manager for APEX Wind Energy; and Larry Shirley, Director of the Green Economy for the N.C. Department of Commerce.
The event will take place at UNCW’s Warwick Center from 7 until 9 p.m.
