NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Over 44 grams of raw heroin has been removed from the Wilmington community as the result of a six-week investigation.
According to authorities, that amount equates to 1833.3 individual bindles of heroin with a total street value of $73,333.33 if sold separately. If sold in bulk, the value would be about $8,000.
The sheriff's office explained the purity of the heroin is much purer if sold in bulk, which allows the street level dealers to "step on it" or "cut it" -- meaning mix in other items to essentially make more of the substance.
According to the sheriff's office, several different agencies worked together in an investigation centered around Vincent Bruce Jackson, who is accused of distributing raw heroin throughout Wilmington.
The sheriff's office said the investigation stemmed from several undercover purchases from Jackson.
