WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department is investigating an attempted first-degree burglary incident.

An officer responded to a report of five to six males attempting to kick in the back door at 3044 Pauline Place around 8 p.m. on Monday, according to WPD spokesperson Lucy Crockett.

The victim told authorities that she was upstairs in her residence when she heard noise at her back door. She reportedly smelled marijuana when she went to the door.

After yelling at the men to get off her porch, the victim said she heard them run away.

Crockett said the WPD officer found visible signs that someone had attempted to enter the home.
