NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) — The New Hanover County Board of Education has partnered with NourishNC, Inc. to provide supplemental food assistance through The Backpack Program.
Local sponsors, volunteers and schools are participating in the effort to ensure students in grades K through 12 receive meals on weekends and during extended school breaks. The following schools are participating:
According to a press release, about 800,000 N.C. students receive federally funded free or reduced-price lunches during the school year and fewer than 67,000 students receive meals during extended breaks.
