Pikes at UNCW raise nearly $6,500 for firefighter memorial | Community Spirit

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Members of UNCW’s Pi Kappa Alpha (Pikes) Fraternity have raised more than $6,000 to support the Wilmington Firefighter Memorial.

The fraternity presented the fire department with a check Tuesday afternoon as the department recognizes the Pikes for their effort and continued support.

The Wilmington Firefighter Memorial will house steel from one of the World Trade Centers and have monuments to represent each Wilmington firefighter lost in the line of duty.

Organizers hope to have the project finished by September 2013.
