WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – More than 30 students who dropped out of high school celebrated their completion of the Youthbuild Program, which aims to help former students ear their GEDs and acquire the skills needed to gain employment.
More than 125 people were expected to attend the ceremony at UNCW Friday morning. Students wore caps and gowns to commemorate their hard work and efforts to complete the program.
According to a press release, many of the students are enrolled in postsecondary training or are entering employment internships.
For some involved, this ceremony will be the closest event to a graduation they have ever experienced. The event included a dance demonstration, a keynote speaker and a video highlighting the year’s accomplishments.
