Chipotle scheduled to open in mid-March

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Port City's first Chipotle is expected to officially open its doors by mid-March, according to Chipotle officials.

The Mexican restaurant will be about 2,000 square feet and will be located in the same plaza as Whole Foods near Independence Mall just off of Oleander Dr.

Chipotle's menu includes burritos, tacos and even a kid's menu.

11 area schools awarded grants

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WECT) – Eleven schools in the Cape Fear region have been awarded $5,500 in grant funding, thanks to Scotchman Convenience Stores and the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program.

According to a news release on behalf of VPS Convenience Store Group, Scotchman and school officials worked together to get the grants, which will go toward math and science education.

The following schools that were chosen for the grants include:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Bojangles’ is making Valentine’s Day a little sweeter by offering its limited time heart-shaped Bo-Berry Biscuits®.

According to a press release from the franchise, the biscuits will be available in participating locations from Friday, Feb. 8 through Valentine’s Day.

“Bojangles’ is always looking for fun ways to celebrate the holidays,” said Bojangles’ Senior Vice President of Marketing Randy Poindexter.  “This mouth-watering treat has been a customer favorite since it was introduced more than 20 years ago, so we felt offering the heart-shaped biscuits would be a fun and fitting way to celebrate Valentine’s Day.”

The heart-shaped biscuits will be available as a pair in addition to the half-dozen and dozen.

Bojangles’ is also offering their Facebook fans prizes in the coming days.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – For the eighth year in a row, IHOP® restaurants nationwide are offering each guest a free short stack of its famous buttermilk pancakes on Tuesday, National Pancake Day, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.

In 2012, the restaurant served four million free pancakes nationwide and raised more than $3 million to children’s charities.

According to the franchise, since the inception of National Pancake Day in 2006, IHOP® has raised more than $10 million and given away more than 14 million pancakes to support charities.

CB restaurant temporarily closed for renovations; Racine location could also see changes

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A local restaurant is undergoing some big changes.

Surf House Café is known for its location on Racine Drive and another in Carolina Beach. However, the Carolina Beach location is temporarily closed for renovations, according to the business’ Facebook page.

“Over the last couple years our guests have constantly challenged us to be better and elevate our offerings,” reads a post from the page's administrator. “We are taking the opportunity to grow from our simple sandwich café/surf shop beginnings to a broader restaurant and hospitality establishment.”
