WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A local daycare center is providing free childcare to parents who wish to attend the funeral of Sgt. TJ Butler, which will be held Friday. He grew up in Pender County.
Thomas Jefferson Butler IV, who many knew as TJ, had only been in Afghanistan for a little more than two weeks when he was killed by a suicide bomber.
The Children’s Corner, located at 4918 Randall Parkway, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Employees there say that they didn’t know Butler personally, but when they heard that the Westboro Baptist Church has threatened to picket the funeral, they wanted to offer their services free of charge to allow the most amount of people to attend the service and pay their respects.
Parents can drop of their kids at the Children's Corner anytime between the hours listed above.
The funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Wilmington.
Additionally, many people on Facebook have started an effort to form a human wall on the day of Butler's funeral.
As a result, a local taxi service, called Seaside Taxi, will be providing free transportation from the parking lot at the funeral to the human wall.
