UNCW's Connect 2011 had successful turnout | Business

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – UNCW seniors, graduate students and alumni hoped to find treats in the job market on Wednesday, Oct. 26 during the school's second annual Connect 2011 networking event.

About 160 students mixed and mingled with potential employers as part of the networking events. About two dozen companies were at the event.

UNCW’s career counselors developed the idea after finding fewer recruiters attending and hiring at job fairs because of the tight economy.

“The number one way to get a job is through networking,” said Leslie Wright, assistant director of the Career Center, in a news release. “The overall goal of the event is not to guarantee a job, but to make connections with possible employers for follow up down the road.”

The event was held from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Burney Center.
