NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Employees at New Hanover Regional Medical Center were put to the test Wednesday during a drill on emergency preparedness.
The hospital simulated a situation in which hundreds of people were taken to multiple hospital campuses in need of emergency care from exposure to a poisonous chemical.
The goal of the exercise is to simulate, as closely as possible, an event in which many hospital personnel would have to manage an influx of patients at more than one hospital location.
It also helps to prepare employees to communicate with the families of the patients and keep the public up to date on the situation.
