WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating a robbery.
Authorities responded to an armed robbery call at the Cigarette Store, located at 5224 Market Street Thursday night.
There, a store manager told them that a suspect walked to the counter and asked to buy several cartons of cigarettes. Due to the large amount of cartons the suspect asked for, the manager bagged them and kept them behind the counter until the customer paid for them.
The suspect went on to demand to see the cigarettes, but the manager told him he couldn’t see them until he paid for them. At that point, the suspect turned around, faced the window and said that he had a gun and to give him the bag.
The manager complied, and the suspect ran out the door, headed west on Market Street.
The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a gray hooded jacket, black jeans and a black toboggan.
WPD detectives are currently following leads they describe as “promising.”
