NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The 911 center in New Hanover County has come up with a new way to get you the first word on any school lockdowns in this county.
The 911 center plans to post school lockdown notifications on Twitter. The handle is @NHC911Lockdown. You can also access it by the website www.twitter.com/NHC911Lockdown. It'll be an automated process.
To get the lockdowns, you can follow that handle on Twitter or text 'follow @NHC911Lockdown' to 40404. You'll get a cancel notice when the lockdown is lifted. Standard text message rates will apply.
WECT also offers you the opportunity to get text messages during severe weather and breaking news situations. Find out more information about that process here.
