WPD respond to report of shots fired into a home

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating reports of shots fired into a house Thursday morning.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating reports of shots fired into a house Thursday morning.

According to police someone called 911 saying someone fired shots into a home in the 1000 block of Emory Street. Police said no one was hit by a bullet during the shooting.

Dispatch officials said the suspects jumped out of a car and ran towards the New Center and McClellan Drive areas.

No other details have been released at this time.

Man accused of stealing phones from business, trying to sell them back to owner

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man was arrested and charged recently, accused of breaking into a business and stealing 10 cell phones and then trying to sell them to the business’ owner, Wilmington Police officials confirmed.

Joel Thurman Hayes, Jr., 29, was charged with three counts of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen property. 

Police say they responded to a call Thursday around 10 a.m. at the NC Contracts Wireless in the 4300 block of Market Street in reference to a breaking and entering.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Paramedics with New Hanover regional Medical Center EMS will be offering free hands-on CPR lessons during National CPR & AED Awareness Week, according to a news release.

The lessons will take about 10-15 minutes and will educate residents on the important role bystanders play in saving a cardiac arrest victim's life.

Paramedics will be located at the Kohl's Department Store parking lot Friday, June 7 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The lessons will take about 10-15 minutes and will educate residents on the important role bystanders play in saving a cardiac arrest victim's life.

Paramedics will be located at the Hanover Center parking lot Thursday, June 6 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Woman call 911, says boyfriend pushed her off apartment balcony

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested Brian Lee Sasser Tuesday afternoon after his girlfriend called authorities to report he refused to let her leave her apartment and then pushed her off the second story balcony.

According to police, Sasser, 23, ran away before officials arrived to the apartment, but they were able to get a description of the vehicle he was in from witness.

While at the apartment, officers were called out to a larceny report on Oriole Drive in which the suspect was called out as Brian Sasser.

According to police, Sasser had stolen a firearm from a roommate on Oriole Drive before. Police say Sasser claimed his roommate was "in trouble" and was in the process of "running away."

Police said Sasser's vehicle was later spotted in New Hanover County, where he was arrested by a sheriff's deputy.
